260 Shotgun

260 is The Modern Technique as applied to the defensive shotgun.  You will now be in command of one of the least-understood and most prolific weapons systems available. The defensive shotgun can act as a breaching device, a gas-delivery system, an effective fight-stopper, and give you the capability to bring home dinner.  Effective out to and beyond 100 yards, the defensive shotgun’s flexibility and versatility demands a special set of manipulation skills, making it a “thinking person’s” weapons system.

In your 260 you develop the marksmanship and manipulations skills that will make you the master of this potent arm. Your ability to make ammunition selection, continuity of fire, malfunction clearances and transitions to the handgun all while on the move, will keep you alive and in the fight long after others have faltered. Again through the liberal use of indoor and outdoor simulators where targets range from 5 to 120 yards, your proficiency will be honed to the sharpest edge. The defensive shotgun is a demanding weapons system, but extremely effective. In the home, on the road, or on duty, the Gunsite 260 Defensive Shotgun Experience will provide you with unique skills to be the most effective with this versatile tool.

Shotgun Advanced Tactical Problems

You have completed the Gunsite 260 Experience!  Now you wish to attain the highest level of preparation.  SATP will give you authoritative command of the shotgun.  You will deliver maximum energy to the target in the minimum amount of time. After a quick review of the 260 lessons learned previously you will quickly depart the square range for extended work sessions in the live fire tactical simulators.  Here we will work in increasingly complex tactical problems in both indoor and outdoor formats. Many force-on-force scenarios will be presented wherein you will make split-second decisions in dealing with real aggressors using non-lethal munitions.  SATP is the “finishing school” for shot gunners.  There is no higher quality shotgun training available.

10-8 Consulting

Shotgun Operator's Course

The 12 gauge pump shotgun is one of the most powerful CQB weapons available in the small arms arsenal, yet it is one of the least understood. This course primarily focuses on the Push/Pull method of recoil control, as developed and taught by shotgun master instructor, Rob Haught. Using his unique method of recoil management, the student will be able to reduce felt recoil by nearly 50% and be able to fire followup shots with a 12 gauge pump shotgun as fast as most shooters can fire their pistols. The student will also be introduced to the shotgun CQB technique, which effectively shortens the weapon by 33%, making it effective even in extremely tight quarters. Other topics include, marksmanship fundamentals, patterning zones, ammunition selection, tactical manipulation, equipment selection, low light considerations, malfunction clearances, pistol transitions, pivots/turns, and shooting on the move

Safariland Shooting School

Safariland Shooting School – Shotgun

In many agencies, the LE shotgun has been discontinued in favor of the patrol rifle. A 12 gauge is often considered to be the single most versatile small arm you can have ready. From contact distance to over 100 yards, the shotgun is very effective when used correctly. Improper technique and the lack of familiarization with the shotgun have led to its lack of use among agencies.

Viking Tactics

Tactical Shotgun - Stage I

As with the Stage I Handgun, this course is designed to create reflexive gunhandling, competent marksmanship and tactical thinking. In addition it places strong emphasis on learning what the shotgun will, and most particularly WILL NOT, do. The importance of patterning the shotgun properly is discussed at length. The course also covers ammunition selection, loading and unloading, reloading and ammunition selection while involved in a shooting scenario, shooting from several ready positions and various tactical body positions, dim-light and flashlight shooting (dependent on time of sundown and range restrictions), shooting on the move, moving targets, multiple targets and weapon retention. Transition to a pistol is covered for those clients who have taken prior pistol training.

Tactical Shotgun - Stage II

Building on the skills learned in Stage I, the course compounds the problems, adding target angles, vital zone definition under stress, one-handed operation, transitioning to a secondary weapon, increased speed and longer distances, multiple moving targets and dim light/flashlight scenarios (dependent on time of sundown and range restrictions). Stage I Shotgun is a prerequisite to this course.
